Curriculum

  1. Understanding the Foundation (10 hours)
    • Why Yoga for Children? We’ll explore the wonderful physical benefits (like flexibility and strength) and the powerful emotional benefits (like reducing stress and helping with feelings) that yoga brings to kids. We’ll also look at how it builds social skills.
    • Kids at Every Stage: Learn how to adapt yoga for different ages – structured games for school-age kids (6-12), and mindful moments for pre-teens (10-12), early teen (13-15)
    • Tracing Yoga’s Path for Kids: A look at how children’s yoga has grown over time, including key figures and different teaching styles you might encounter today.
    • Activities: Group discussions and explorations into the history of kids yoga.
  2. Techniques & Practice (25 hours)
    • Yoga Poses for Kids: We’ll dive into common poses showing you how to teach them safely and playfully. Get ready for animal poses and fun, themed sequences!
    • Simple Breathing Fun (Pranayama): Learn engaging breath exercises like “Balloon Breath” and “Lion’s Breath” to help kids manage their energy and find calm. We’ll also practice grounding techniques like “5-finger breathing.”
    • Mindfulness & Relaxation: Discover how to use guided imagery (like imagining a peaceful place) and simple meditation (body scans, nature sounds) to help children find quiet moments.
    • Creative Movement & Play: Explore how to weave stories (like “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”) into yoga sequences and use props like scarves and stuffed animals to make learning fun and interactive.
    • Activities: Lots of hands-on practice teaching poses in groups and creating your own story-based yoga flows.
  3. The Art of Teaching (15 hours)
    • Planning a Kids Yoga Class: Break down how to structure a class, from warm-up to cool-down. Learn how to create a safe and welcoming space where every child feels included.
    • Connecting Through Communication: Discover how to use stories, songs, and games to keep kids engaged. We’ll focus on simplifying instructions so they’re easy for any age to understand.
    • Managing the Classroom with Ease: Get practical tips for handling different energy levels and encouraging everyone to participate positively, building a happy group dynamic.
    • Activities: You’ll create your own lesson plans and practice managing various classroom scenarios through role-play.
  4. Understanding Their Bodies (Anatomy & Physiology) (15 hours)
    • How Kids Grow: A clear look at the physical milestones children reach at different ages and how their bodies differ from adults in terms of flexibility and strength.
    • Safety First! Learn about common childhood injuries and how to prevent them in a yoga setting. We’ll emphasize the importance of teaching children to listen to their own bodies.
    • Activities: Interactive anatomy lessons and real-life case studies on keeping kids safe in yoga.
  5. Yoga Philosophy & Ethics (10 hours)
    • Yoga’s Big Ideas for Little Ones: We’ll introduce basic yoga philosophy, like the Eight Limbs of Yoga, in a way that children can understand and relate to in their daily lives (e.g., kindness, honesty).
    • Being a Responsible Teacher: Understand the ethical guidelines and professional conduct involved in teaching children. We’ll discuss how to create a truly supportive and encouraging environment.
    • Activities: Group discussions on ethical situations and creating your own personal teaching guidelines.
  6. Getting Real Experience (Practical) (20 hours)
    • Your Turn to Teach: You’ll have plenty of opportunities to lead supervised teaching sessions with your peers, practicing with different age groups and getting valuable feedback.
    • Learning from the Best: Observe live classes led by experienced kids’ yoga teachers in action, then reflect on their techniques and what you can learn from them.
    • Your Final Class: You’ll prepare and lead a complete kids’ yoga class, showcasing your creativity, engagement, and safety awareness.
    • Activities: Peer teaching sessions and your final assessment where you lead a full class.
  7. Additional Learning Support
    • Reading Materials: We’ll suggest insightful books on kids’ yoga, child development, and teaching methods (like “Yoga for Children: 200+ Activities for Kids” by Lisa Flynn) to deepen your knowledge.
    • Assignments & Projects: You’ll work on class planning projects, reflect on your teaching experiences, and complete a final project to bring all your learnings together.

Chitra Ganesh

Chitra holds a Diploma in Nutritional Science and is currently pursuing her Master’s in Yoga and Life Sciences from SVYASA, with aspirations to complete a Ph.D. in Yoga. She is driven by a passion for advancing the scientific understanding and application of yoga to enhance well-being.

Vijayendra

Motivated Yoga Instructor with RYT 500 Multi style, RYT 200+ Hata Yoga and specialization in Ashtanga principles, with a comprehensive Yoga Instructors Course from SVYASA focusing on holistic health and the therapeutic applications of yoga.

Dr. Shubha Chetan

Dr. Shubha Chetan, an Ayurvedic physician by profession, transitioned into the field of yoga to offer holistic healing. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy from SVYASA University of Yoga, Bangalore, completed in 2015. Further enhancing her expertise, she obtained a Certificate in Pre and Post Natal Yoga from the 1000 Yoga School, a Certificate in Yoga for Positive Health through Indica Yoga, and a TTC Yoga Certification from Bharat Yoga Vidya Kendra, Madanapalle.

Srilakshmi

An artist deeply in love with colors, she sees every shade as a doorway into emotion and meaning. Guided by creative learning, her brushes move with freedom and curiosity. To her, art is not just expression; it’s a way to understand the mind, one color at a time.
