Yoga Sangha

A circle of seekers, studying together

Svadhyaya in good company — where personal practice meets shared reflection.

The Yoga Sangha is an online community of seekers who come together to study, reflect on, and live the teachings of yoga with sincerity and mutual support. Rooted in svadhyaya — the practice of self-study — it draws on the great wisdom texts across traditions, and offers a steady anchor for every sadhaka’s growth.

This practice isn’t sold on its own

Your yoga classes come as part of one membership — together with Pranayama & Yoga Nidra, Yoga Sangha and the lunar meditations. One fee, both levels, everything included.

Why one membership
A practice is one river, not four streams

Asana steadies the body. The breath gathers the mind. Yogic rest restores it. Scripture lights the path. Chanting and meditation bring stillness. These were never meant to be bought as separate courses — they are one practice, supporting each other. As a Sadhaka member, you receive all of it, at whatever level you practise, for a single fee.

“Cultivate Sat-sangha, to keep Dur-Sangha away.” ~Sri M

What it is
One text, read together, one month at a time

The Yoga Sangha is not a lecture series. It is a live conversation — a space where a great wisdom text is read aloud, questioned, turned over, and allowed to do its quiet work on the people present. Each month the circle takes up one book, dwelling with it long enough for the teaching to move from the intellect toward something more intimate.

Svadhyaya — self-study — is one of the niyamas of Patanjali’s path, and the Yoga Sangha treats it as a shared practice rather than a solitary one. When sincere seekers sit with the same words, their questions illuminate corners of the text that no single reader would find alone. Clarity and steadiness emerge not just from what is read, but from the companionship of others who are walking the same path.

The circle is open to all — those new to these texts and those who have spent years with them. What matters is not background, but the willingness to engage honestly and listen deeply.

The reading list
The texts — a new one each month

Each session is an unhurried conversation with one book. Below is the current cycle of texts; the circle returns to and deepens them over time.

Membership questions
Frequently asked

Yoga Sangha is a live online community for svadhyaya — insightful discussion and a monthly wisdom-text reading. It recreates the supportive atmosphere of a retreat in an ongoing, accessible format, and is open to all, from complete beginners to long-time practitioners.

None at all. The only requirement is a willingness to engage openly and respectfully. Each session begins from the text itself, so no prior study of any particular tradition is assumed. Questions at all levels are welcome.

Recordings are available to members for a week, so a busy Tuesday or a stretch of travel needn’t interrupt your engagement with the text.

Yes. All sessions are online. The 7–8pm IST slot falls in a convenient morning or early afternoon slot for many time zones in the Americas and Europe — and the recording covers the rest.

Yoga Sangha is part of the BYK Sadhaka Membership, which also includes the yoga classes, Pranayama & Yoga Nidra and the Purnima & Ekadashi meditations — one membership for all four practices. See the membership page to learn more and enrol.
