Bhagavad Gita Study Circle

Chant with Precision. Understand with Clarity. Live with Purpose.

A One-of-a-Kind Journey into the Gita
The Bharat Yoga Vidya Kendra (BYK) presents a unique Bhagavad Gita Study Circle, designed not just to read the Gita, but to experience it. Unlike standard study groups that focus solely on philosophy, this course places equal emphasis on the traditional art of Chanting (Ucharana) and the practical application of Wisdom (Jnana).

We dive deep into one chapter every 3 months. This paced approach gives us sufficient time to:

Learn to Chant:
Master the correct pronunciation and meter of selected important verses.

Understand the Meaning:
Explore commentaries to grasp the subtle truths of the verses.

Apply to Life:
Discuss how Krishna’s teachings can be incorporated into your everyday life to find balance and peace.

“The aim of chanting is not to chant, but to bring about silence. One need not mistake the technique to be the goal. If the goal is felt, stop all chanting and subside into it. In quietness, enjoy to the best of your capacity.”

Upcoming Module: Jul – Sep 2026

Focus: Chapter 12 – Bhakti Yoga  (Yoga through Devotion)

In this quarter, we explore Bhakti Yoga, the path of devotion and surrender to the Divine. In Chapter 12 of the Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna guides Arjuna on the nature of true devotion, the forms of worship, and the qualities of the devotee who is dearest to Him.

What you will learn:
You will learn to chant and understand key verses from Chapter 12 that explain the path of devotion, the difference between worship of the Divine with form and without form, and the qualities of a steady devotee. The study will also reflect on surrender, prayer, gratitude, faith, and trust as lived aspects of Bhakti Yoga.

Some verses that will be covered in this session:

Verse 12.2:

मय्यावेश्य मनो ये मां नित्ययुक्ता उपासते ।
श्रद्धया परयोपेतास्ते मे युक्ततमा मताः ॥

mayy āveśya mano ye māṁ nitya-yuktā upāsate |
śraddhayā parayopetās te me yuktatamā matāḥ ||

Meaning:

“Those who fix their mind on Me, remain ever united with Me, worship Me with supreme faith and devotion, are considered by Me to be the best among yogis.”

In the above citation, Lord Krishna answers Arjuna’s question in Bhagavad Gita, on who is an ideal Yogi (one who is in complete onesness with the divine). It is verily the essence of Bhakti Yoga. Bhakti Yoga connects deeply with the below themes. Exploring these related teachings will enrich our understanding and provide multiple perspectives on the path of self enquiry:

  • Sharanagati — Complete surrender to God’s will and trusting the divine plan
  • Prayer & Worship — Forms of prayer, worship, and offerings as taught in the Bhagavad Gita
  • Gratitude & Contentment — Cultivating gratitude, contentment, and appreciation in daily life
  • Faith & Trust — Building unshakeable faith, trust in one self and the divine within us, and spiritual conviction

In Bhakti, one can experience total freedom from fear and worry. A devotee transcends worldly sorrows and pains.
