A joyful Ganesha Chaturthi celebration for children through stories, chanting and creativity.
Join us for a joyful 2.5-hour children’s workshop celebrating Lord Ganesha through stories, music and creativity.
Through the playful world of Ganesha, children will discover the qualities he represents: wisdom, courage, kindness, focus and the ability to overcome obstacles.
A beautiful way for children to experience Ganesha Chaturthi as a celebration of wisdom, devotion, creativity and joyful learning.
The Workshop
Ganesha-inspired Storytelling
An engaging story from the life of Ganesha and the values it teaches us.
Learning Ganesha Pancharatnam
Children will be introduced to this beautiful traditional chant and learn to chant it together.
Creative Clay Activity
Children will lovingly create their own little Ganesha using natural clay, encouraging imagination, mindfulness and connection with tradition.
Closing Prayer
The session will end with a simple prayer of gratitude and the spirit of Ganesha as remover of obstacles and giver of wisdom.
About the Chant
Ganesha Pancharatnam, the “five gems” of Lord Ganesha, is a short but dazzling hymn attributed to Adi Shankaracharya.
Its five verses move in a fast, rolling metre that seems to mimic the sound of anklets and drums, and a closing sixth verse names the rewards of reciting it every morning.
Benefits of Chanting
- The Ganesha Pancharatnam is a cherished daily prayer for children, promising a life filled with joy, learning and success.
- Reciting this hymn at dawn is believed to grant children the qualities of a healthy, virtuous life, and to support their well-being and happiness.
About Clay Modelling
Working with clay requires children to slow down, concentrate on what they are doing and use their hands carefully.
This naturally supports some of the qualities encouraged through Yoga, particularly concentration, awareness, patience and being present in the activity.
Activity Plan
Children will be guided to:
- Understand the basic form of Ganesha
- Learn simple clay-moulding techniques
- Shape and assemble their own Ganesha
- Add simple details and personal creative touches
- Work at their own pace and enjoy the process
- Share and appreciate their creations
The emphasis will be on the process of creating rather than making a perfect final product.
Materials Required
- Air-dry clay / natural clay
- Newspaper or a small work mat
- Small bowl of water
- Basic clay modelling tools
- Cloth or tissues for cleaning hands
- Cardboard sheet or tray for placing the finished artwork
